چکیده

Rayleigh-Taylor and Kelvin-Helmholtz instability Our proposed studies are rather specialized; they are in ranges of parameters not previously investigated or they focus on topics for which, to our knowledge, there is no prior literature. Three such topics are: (1) application of viscous and viscoelastic potential flow to Kelvin-Helmholz instability, (2) stress induced cavitation and (3) solubility of gases in thickened liquids.

Influence of nozzle geometry and injection conditions on the cavitation flow inside a diesel injector

Cavitation and turbulence in a diesel injector nozzle has a great effect on the development and primary breakup of spray. However, the mechanism of the cavitation flow inside the nozzle and its influence on spray characteristics have not been clearly known yet because of the internal nozzle flow complexities. In this paper, a comprehensive numerical simulation is carried out to study the intern...

Stress-induced Cavitation in an Aperture Flow

Cavitation in an aperture flow in a flat plate is studied using viscous potential flow. The maximum tension criterion for cavitation used here was proposed by Joseph [Phy. Rev. E, vol. 51, pp. 1649–1650, 1995; J. Fluid Mech., vol. 366, 367–378, 1998]: “Liquids at atmospheric pressure which cannot withstand tension will cavitate when and where tensile stresses due to motion exceed one atmosphere...

Bubble Dynamics and Cavitation in Non-newtonian Liquids

Cavitation phenomena play important roles in many areas of science and engineering. The most interesting effect of the non-Newtonian properties of the liquid is the reduction of cavitation damage and noise. This article reviews experimental and theoretical efforts to understand such phenomena. The currently available information favors a description of the observed reduction of cavitation damag...

Analysis of Pseudo-Turbulence Flow Induced by Bubble Periodic Formation in Non-Newtonian Fluids

Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) has been employed to determine pseudo-turbulence characteristics of the flow field around bubble train forming in non-Newtonian caboxymethylcellulose (CMC) aqueous solution at low gas flow rate condition. The Reynolds stress and turbulent intensity of the liquid were investigated by means of Reynolds time-averaged method. The experimental results show that ax...

In vivo observations and in vitro experiments on the oral phase of swallowing of Newtonian and shear-thinning liquids.

In this study, an in vitro device that mimics the oral phase of swallowing is calibrated using in vivo measurements. The oral flow behavior of different Newtonian and non-Newtonian solutions is then investigated in vitro, revealing that shear-thinning thickeners used in the treatment of dysphagia behave very similar to low-viscosity Newtonian liquids during active swallowing, but provide better...
